Many people opposed the involvement of the government for saving companies going corrupt.
The idea that the government would always be there to bail you out was a message being sent to other companies. This encouraged other companies to take advantage of the lack of regulations. They wanted the companies to take responsibility for their own mistakes, and for the impact, they had on others. An example of this opposition is the Occupy Wall Street Movement.
