Harlem Renaissance

The Harlem Renaissance was an intellectual, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem, New York, spanning the 1920s. During the time, it was known as the "New Negro Movement", named after the 1925 anthology by Alain Locke.

Thanks to the economic boom of the early 1900's the African Americans were able to assimilate easily into north american culture after their liberation from slavery and share cropping. It was this era of economic surplus that enabled the artistic crafts of African Americans as well as black empowerment to spread through the Harlem Renaissance
