The End of the Horse & Buggy Era

In 1865, the average American home was lit by fire. Candles and oil lamps were common light sources. There was not yet such thing as electricity that could be used to keep foods cold or light homes. Now, texts and emails can communicate a message in fractions of seconds. In 1865, letters took months to relay a message to someone else, constantly leaving the different regions eternally separated by more than distance. By 1900, the rise of capitalism and investment in different technologies including the lightbulb and telegraph system. Thomas Edison and his inventions were invested in by J.P. Morgan. For five years, Edison was given the opportunity to invent and create with full funding, as long as Morgan and his company got the rights to his inventions.

Samuel F. B Morse was another notable character in the technological advancement of 18-19th century America. His commercialization of the telegraph revolutionized communication and telegraphs were set up all over the country. Alexander Graham Bell followed with the invention of the first telephone. These inventors revolutionized the way that people communicated as well as changing capitalism as investments in promising fields were emerging everywhere. Society was affected and the world of science was changed. Transportation was forever changed when the Wright Brothers perfected the first airplane. The Horse & Buggy Era was over in just thirty-eight years.
