He became a prominent figure for Germany throughout the war since by the end of the war he obtained 80 confirmed take-downs on enemy aircrafts. The difference between Richthofen and Sergeant Alvin York is really interesting. York was a pacifist that eventually killed and captured over 140 Germans, and came to the understanding that sometimes killing another person is a necessary evil in order to save others. Richthofen had a more eager mindset, but still achieved similar results. It is interesting how their goals were different, but the outcomes were similar.
It is very interesting to hear about a notable character from the German army, as opposed to the commonly dissected narrative of American or Allied soldiers. Very detailed account of his life in the war!
It is very interesting how he was able to join the military academy at the age of 11. Military must have been emphasized a lot in a Germany before World War I since it was a imperialistic and militaristic nation.
Very good summary of Richthofen and his impact on the war. Its intriguing that such characters are portrayed in American pop culture such as the Peanuts (Charlie Brown), although that show is old.
Very well written summary about him, it sucks that he died right before the war ended.
