The Unterseeboot or more popularly known as the U-Boat was a submarine used by the German navy in World War I. The main goal of U-Boats was to sink merchant ships that were bringing supplies to Britain. The U-Boat was so effective in doing this because they were undetectable. In April of 1917, 430 Allie ships were sunk by U-Boats. At the end of the war, more than 10,000,000 tons of cargo was destroyed.

This is cool because the U-Boats were the first ever submarines. The large amount of cargo destroyed shows how effective submarines were and how big of a difference they made in the war.
