Panama Canal is an artificial 82 km waterway in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. It cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a conduit for maritime trade. The Canal was completed on August 1914. It is artificial waterways sailing from east coast to west coast. From 1914 until 1979, the Canal was controlled by the US. n 1979, however, control of the canal passed to the Panama Canal Commission, a joint agency of the United States and the Republic of Panama, and complete control passed to Panama on December 31, 1999.

Intersting post! I do recall that the canal has be widened a few times as ships became bigger, and the US Navy specifically designed their ships to be thin enough to fit through the locks.
