The Hubble Space Telescope
In 1923, German scientist Hermann Oberth suggested that we can launch telescopes into space in order to overcome the distortion caused by the atmosphere. As rockets become more common, NASA, working with the European Space Agency, began to develop the Hubble telescope which would take 15 years and $1.5 billion. The first space telescope was launched on April 24, 1990, after several delays. However, after it was launched in low Earth orbit, the researchers realized that there was a design flaw that caused the images to be fuzzy. It took another three years for NASA to bring astronauts to space to fix the giant mirror. The Hubble transmits about 120 gigabytes of data every week and serviced five times. It took many famous breathtaking photos that help researchers understand more about the universe beyond the Milkey Way.

It's nice to see how space programs like Hubble can bring nations together with one common goal. With the recent photo of the black hole and the amount of information it gave to the world, I can't image how monumental the photos the Hubble took were.
The Hubble telescope is incredible not only because it has aided many scientific developments, but also because it revitalized a spirit of cooperation among researchers. The photos it has taken are absolutely stunning and offer rare glimpses into the universe beyond our small blue planet.
